1969 | Suren Makkar

1969 was the year ISRO was setup. It was also the year of religious and political issues in Gujrat, eventually leading to the most deadly communal riots since 1947. We moved forward and backwards all at the same time. I think it’s interesting as it seems similar to the times we live in right now. India seems to move forward and still seems to be going backwards. This artwork would use space exploration as a theme to play with this whole forward-backward limbo that India seems to be stuck in.
