Much of the developed world has spent billions of dollars waging ‘wars’ on drugs, but not India. Here, where people have been getting lit for thousands of years—the most prominent strain of marijuana is named after India—the two crops form the lynchpin of our export economy. Our country today is a weird, colourful place, and the drugs have both their admirers and critics. The artist depicts a snapshot of the entire ecosystem around them: politicians use them to connect with young voters; doctors are divided; people get high all day long; but mostly, people just use it to unwind after a long day.
